In addition, intraoperative carotid sacrifice or bypass can be anticipated through the use of test balloon occlusion of the carotid artery to assess circle of Willis competency. Technological advances in intraoperative monitoring of the patient also have improved skull base surgery outcomes. The use of monitors to assess cranial nerve function in real time has greatly reduced the risk of neurologic deficits.
Advanced devices such as the laser and the ultrasonic dissector further reduce operative morbidity.
Trauma: Complex craniofacial fractures | CSF rhinorrhea | Orbital apex fractures with optic nerve compression
Congenital Lesions: Basilar invaginations | Branchial cleft cysts | Congenital cysts | Craniofacial anomalies and malformations | Encephaloceles | Menginoceles
