BRUNO FLORES, MD
Dr. Bruno C. Flores is a fellowship trained neurosurgeon specialized on cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery. His clinical practice focuses on the management of brain and spine vascular disorders, such as aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs), cavernous malformations, carotid disease, hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes.
Dr. Flores was born in Brazil, where he obtained his medical degree from the Federal University of Minas Gerais. After medical school, Dr. Flores completed a Neuro-Oncology research fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. His primary focus was on molecular mechanisms of treatment for glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), an aggressive and often fatal type of brain cancer.
Following his research fellowship, Dr. Flores completed neurosurgical training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. At UT Southwestern, he received extensive training on the management of cerebrovascular and spinal vascular diseases under the guidance of world-renowned neurosurgeons Drs. Duke Samson and Hunt Batjer. After residency, Dr. Flores completed an Endovascular Neurosurgery fellowship under Dr. Felipe C. Albuquerque at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ. During his fellowship, he specialized on the minimally invasive treatment of cerebral aneurysms, AVMs, and AVFs.
Dr. Flores has comprehensive training on the endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke, the #5 cause of death in the US. The deadliest type of ischemic stroke is caused by a large vessel occlusion — which cuts off blood flow to the brain from a major artery and often results in death or long-term disability. When a stroke patient is properly triaged and transported to a facility that is equipped to perform this type of surgery, the odds of survival and returning to a normal life increase dramatically. Patients who receive this treatment are twice as likely to be independent after a stroke than those who do not. Dr. Bruno Flores is part of a select group of physicians that are trained in neuroendovascular surgery for those types of stroke.
Dr. Flores joins the SENTA Clinic Division of Neurosurgery as part of a select group of neurosurgeons capable of treating vascular disorders of the brain and spine through both standard and minimally invasive techniques. Throughout his career, he has authored several book chapters and articles in neurosurgical journals, and he is a frequent presenter at national neurosurgical meetings.
